Siemens, global industry experts in industrial software, automation and digital technologies, has signed an agreement to acquire Precision Innovations Inc., a privately held electronic design automation software company specializing in AI-powered chip planning and system-on-a-chip design exploration. The acquisition will add early-stage architecture planning and design-optimization capabilities to the Siemens electronic design automation portfolio. Precision Innovations’ technology allows semiconductor engineering teams to evaluate design feasibility and compare architectural tradeoffs earlier in the system-on-a-chip development process.
By moving this analysis closer to the beginning of the design cycle, engineers can assess how architectural decisions may affect power consumption, performance and chip area before proceeding into more resource-intensive implementation and verification stages.

Siemens has announced plans to acquire Precision Innovations, expanding its AI-powered chip-planning and system-on-a-chip design exploration capabilities.
Precision Innovations develops design automation software using the open-source OpenROAD framework. The technology supports rapid design exploration and implementation workflows for application-specific integrated circuits and system-on-a-chip architectures. The OpenROAD project was created to reduce the cost, schedule risk, expertise requirements and uncertainty associated with advanced chip design. Its tools support an automated workflow that moves a digital design from register-transfer-level specifications through the physical layout needed for semiconductor manufacturing.
Siemens plans to integrate Precision Innovations into its Digital Design Creation software portfolio. The acquisition is intended to connect early architecture exploration with Siemens’ existing digital design, implementation and verification capabilities, creating a more continuous workflow across the chip-development lifecycle.
“With Precision Innovations joining Siemens, we will expand our ability to support customers as they face rapidly increasing SoC complexity and the need to explore new architectures faster and more efficiently,” said Ankur Gupta, executive vice president, IC Portfolio, Siemens EDA, Siemens Digital Industries Software. “Integrating Precision Innovations’ AI-powered early design exploration into our EDA portfolio can significantly accelerate time to silicon and improves power, performance and area.”
As system-on-a-chip designs become more complex, semiconductor teams must consider a growing number of architectural, physical and performance variables. Precision Innovations’ software is designed to use AI to evaluate large numbers of potential design options, allowing engineering teams to identify promising configurations earlier and reduce downstream design iterations. The companies said the combined capabilities will help semiconductor developers shorten development cycles, improve engineering productivity and make more informed decisions before committing designs to implementation.
“Becoming part of Siemens allows us to scale our technology and bring AI-driven chip planning to a much broader set of semiconductor teams,” said Tom Spyrou, chief executive officer, Precision Innovations. “Together, we can help designers leverage AI to evaluate thousands of design options earlier in the process and focus innovation where it matters most.”
Founded in San Diego, California, in 2019, Precision Innovations develops industrial-quality design tools using OpenROAD as a foundational platform for application-specific integrated circuit and system-on-a-chip development. The company’s stated mission is to reduce barriers involving cost, expertise, tool access and design uncertainty. The transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of calendar year 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.
